Annual meeting of the Vigdís International Centre

The annual meeting of the Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding was held in Veröld – House of Vigdís on Wednesday 10 May 2023. This was the first meeting of a new Governing Board for the Centre, consisting of Ann-Sofie Nielsen Gremaud, Chair, appointed by the University of Iceland, Bhanu Neupane, appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO, Isabel Alejandra Díaz, appointed by the Icelandic UNESCO Committee, Þórir Jónsson Hraundal and Þórhallur Eyþórsson, both appointed by the University of Iceland, and Þórunn Sigurðardóttir, appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs.

Before the annual meeting began, a short reception was held with the new Governing Board, the Dean of the School of Humanities, the Chair of the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages and the Centre’s staff. At the meeting, which was chaired by Sofiya Zahova, Director of the Centre, the activities of the year 2022 were reviewed, the annual report and accounts were presented, along with the activity plan and budget for 2023. For the Centre, the highlight of 2023 will be the opening of a new exhibition about the life and work of Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, scheduled to open this year in the Telegram Centre, an historical building next to Veröld – House of Vigdís.
