With the aim of opening a platform for hearing the voices and experiences of refugees in Iceland with regard to languages and language rights, The Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding organised a public seminar on the topic, on 28 February in the main auditorium of Veröld – House of Vigdís. 

The director of the Vigdís Centre participated in UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day Event in Paris. 

School children from Hólabrekkuskóli visited Veröld – House of Vigdís on the International Mother Language Day, 21 February and had an introduction to the Living Language Lab, the Mother Language day and languages of the world.

Today on February 6 the Sámi National Day is celebrated all over Sápmi.

Women leaders, including two women of indigenous and minority backgrounds with long-term experience in community and organisational leadership, came together in a conversation at the seminar The Voices and Languages of Indigenous and Minority Communities: What Can Women Leaders Do? 

To celebrate UNESCO’s World Day of Romani Language, Romani language, culture, and human rights experts spoke at the seminar Romani histories and prospects: What can we learn from a minority language and culture?, held in Veröld – House of Vigdís. 

Indigenous languages of the Arctic were discussed yesterday at a seminar organized by Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavík, as a contribution to the International Decade of Indigenous Languages ​​(IDIL 2022-2032).
