Vigdís International Centre at Language Revitalisation Conference in Sweden
The Director of the Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding participated in the international conference “Perspectives on the Revitalisation of Minority Languages”, organised by Södertörn University and the Institute for Language and Folklore (Isof) from 20 to 22 November 2024.
The conference brought together academics and practitioners to discuss methods and initiatives for revitalisation, challenges and opportunities in education, and the latest research on languages recognised as national minority languages in the Nordic countries, such as Sámi languages, Romani, Kven, Meänkieli, Yiddish, Finnish (in Sweden), and Karelian Finnish (in Finland).
Sofiya Zahova gave a talk titled “Romani Publishing: Patterns, Accomplishments and (Missed) Opportunities in a Nordic Context” and discussed with colleagues the possibilities for collaboration with the Vigdís International Centre within the framework of its two major programmes: Language and Culture in the West Nordic Region and Roma in the Centre.
