The award board is now accepting nominations for the 2023 International Vigdís Prize. 

Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Culture and Business Affairs opened the new language learning website Icelandic Online Börn in Veröld – House of Vigdís on 18 April, the first day of Reykjavík Children’s Culture Festival 2023.

Today, the Nowruz festival begins in many countries of the world. The word Nowruz means “new day” and during the festival the renewal of nature and arrival of spring are celebrated with rituals and cultural events. 

With the aim of opening a platform for hearing the voices and experiences of refugees in Iceland with regard to languages and language rights, The Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding organised a public seminar on the topic, on 28 February in the main auditorium of Veröld – House of Vigdís. 

School children from Hólabrekkuskóli visited Veröld – House of Vigdís on the International Mother Language Day, 21 February and had an introduction to the Living Language Lab, the Mother Language day and languages of the world.

The director of the Vigdís Centre participated in UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day Event in Paris. 

Today on February 6 the Sámi National Day is celebrated all over Sápmi.

Today is the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.
