Call for nominations: the International Vigdís Prize

The World’s Christmas – Multilingual Calendar is organized by the Móðurmál – the Association on Bilingualism and it is published in collaboration with the Icelandic UNESCO Committee, Vigdís International Center, the City of Reykjavík´s Center for Language and Literacy, and the compulsory schools Hólabrekkuskóli and Fellaskóli.

An Icelandic-Slovak collaborative project on language teaching and technology was launched 23 October. 

The Vigdís Centre, STÍL - the Association of Language Teachers in Iceland, along with the Language Center of the University of Iceland, annually collaborate to celebrate the European Day of Languages, with the generous support of the Ministry of Education.

Anne Carson is the 2023 Vigdís Prize Laureate.

New exhibition: First Encounter. Greenlanders in Ísafjörður in 1925.

Over 180 specialists in Computer Assisted Language Learning and related fields came together at the EUROCALL 2023 conference held on 15-18 August in Veröld – House of Vigdís.

An exhibition dedicated to the life and impact of Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the former president of Iceland and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Languages, is to open this year at the old Telegram Centre next to Veröld – House of Vigdís.

Over 170 language teachers and language professionals  participated in the international conference The Future of Languages, in Veröld – House of Vigdís at the University of Iceland on 8-9 June 2023. 

An exploratory workshop with experts in translations and literary production was held in Veröld – House of Vigdís on 7–8 June 2023, as part of the Vigdís International Centre’s programme in the framework of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032 (IDIL 2022-2032). 

The Vigdís Centre's Annual Report of 2022 has been published.
